  • Clifton Prison Work at Wayne County Boot Camp and CCA - We are excited to bring you information about a prison mission work right in your back yard. The elders here at East Wood Street Church of Christ would like to introduce you to the Clifton Prison Ministry that we oversee in Clifton, Tennessee. Located in Clifton are two prisons that receive prisoners from practically every community and town in the State of Tennessee and from many of the surrounding states.

Wayne County Boot Camp (WCBC) is a minimum security prison with an operating capacity of 446 inmates and the South Central Correctional Facility (SCCF) is a medium security prison with an operating capacity of 1,642 inmates. Both prisons are TDOC facilities but SCCF is managed by Corrections Corporation of America, a national private corporation that operates prisons for states. The WCBC is divided into two facilities with the longer sentenced inmates at the annex and the “boot camp” inmates at the main compound. WCBC has a military training boot camp program for inmates ranging in age from 18 to 35 and convicted of non-violent crimes with sentences of six years or less. Inmates participate in the boot camp program for 90 to 120 days. The SCCF accepts inmates from other states and is also divided into two facilities – the SCCF annex and the SCCF main compound.

Each Sunday one of our prison ministers holds four services at the prison facilities. Midweek Bible studies are also held on Thursday evenings. The service locations and times are as follows:
Sunday   –  7:30 am – Wayne County Boot Camp Main Compound Chapel
Sunday   –  9:00 am – Wayne County Boot Camp Annex – Chapel Room
Sunday   –  1:00 pm – SCCF Annex Compound Chapel
Sunday   –  2:15 pm – SCCF Main Compound Chapel
Thursday –  5:30 pm – SCCF Annex Compound Chapel
Thursday –  7:00 pm – SCCF Main Compound Chapel (except 1st Thursday of month)

This prison ministry involves the following opportunities for Rickey Lomax and Daniel Haislip:

  • Biblical counseling sessions in every area of life,
  • Bible studies and or Bible correspondence courses,
  • Prayer request,
  • Giving death notices to the inmates about family members,
  • Giving serious emergency news to the inmates about family matters,
  • Memorial / funeral services,
  • Leading singing with the inmates,
  • Answering inmate Biblical questions that they are struggling with,
  • Preaching and teaching the whole counsel of God,
  • Giving GED speeches and prayers,
  • Working with TDOC staff with any needs of the inmates.

We currently have Daniel Haislip and Rickey Lomax on a part-time basis. We are hopeful to expand this ministry in the very near future by adding Rickey Lomax as the second full time prison minister. In order to do so, we must raise additional support. If your congregation would be willing to contribute to this good work, please bring this to the attention to the Elders of the East Wood congregation in Paris, Tennessee, that oversee this work Any consideration given will be greatly appreciated. Please pray for our continued success! Daniel is also working full time at the Boot Camp as a counselor for the State of TN.

We were able to teach and baptize 103 in the Clifton Prison Ministry in 2003. We taught and baptized 113 in 2004, and this past year in 2005, we taught and baptized 155 souls into the New Testament Church. In 2005 we conducted 251 Bible studies and answered 580 prayer requests. We were able to assist 13 as they requested to be restored to faithful service.

During the fourth quarter of 2005 we averaged 110 in attendance for Sunday morning worship and met with an average of 19 for mid-week Bible study.
